There are many strange things lurking in the ocean that humans cannot explain. One of the unexplained mysteries of the ocean is the giant animal carcasses, which are found washed up on beaches around the world.
There are a number of giant carcasses that have been interpreted as belonging to whales, but most of them have no explanation as to what species they belong to.
Below are a series of cases where giant animal carcasses washed up on the beach, causing scientists a headache to explain.
1. Augustine Monster
In 1896, the body of this strange animal was discovered drifting ashore near St. Augustine, Florida. According to press documents from that time, it was about 5.4 meters long and weighed nearly 5 tons. Researchers have debated this corpse and believe it is that of a giant squid. However, later research in 1990 showed that this mysterious corpse was that of a sperm whale.
2. Sea monster Trunko
This strangely giant creature was discovered washed ashore in Margate, South Africa, in 1924. With the scientific and technological conditions of that time, it was difficult to determine Trunko’s background. Currently, only a few photos of this sea monster remain and therefore, it remains a mysterious creature to scientists.
3. New Zealand Globster
This giant carcass was discovered washed ashore on New Zealand’s North Island. At the time, the chairman of the zoology department at the University of Auckland, JE Morton, commented, “I can’t think of any animal it resembles”. It’s hard to guess what creature it is when even animal experts don’t know.
4. Bermuda Blob
The two bodies share the same name because they were found on the coast of Bermuda in 1988 and 1997. No one can explain what it really is, but many believe it is a dead whale.
5. The Four Mile Monster
Actually, this monster got its name not because it is 4 miles long but because it was found at Four Mile Beach on the island of Tasmania in 1997. It is 4.5 meters long and weighs nearly 4 tons. Newspapers describe it as having six fleshy tendrils along both sides of its body.
6. Chilean sea monster
This giant mass of meat still holds the record as the largest corpse ever washed ashore. It was found on the coast of Los Muermos, Chile. It weighs 14 tons and measures more than 11 meters. At that time, many opinions were that the body belonged to some alien creature. However, DNA testing by scientists since 2004 has confirmed that this is a sperm whale.
7. Montauk Monster
In 2008, the world paid great attention to the discovery of the body of this monster washed ashore near Montauk, New York. Sadly, to date there is still no complete explanation for the remains of this mysterious creature. People only guess that this could be a genetically modified turtle or an animal that was experimented on by the government and escaped. Immediately after being discovered, this body also disappeared and since then no one has seen it again.
8. Sakhalin Monster
The remains of this strange creature appeared on Sakhalin Island in Russia in 2006. It was discovered by the military and quickly destroyed. The area where the monster’s body was discovered is a point of contention between Russia and Japan, so the story about it was quickly quashed.
9. Roch Ness Monster
It should not be confused with the famous Loch Ness monster, this sea monster was found on the shore of Lake Hollingworth, Manchester, England in 2015. Of course, no one knows exactly what it is.
10. Beast of Tenby
This bloated carcass was found in Tenby, Wales in 2013. It looked like a horse with bear claws and the body of a pig. That’s all people know about this body, and scientists still haven’t determined what kind of creature it is.
