A mutant creature has caused alarm after it was thought to be a bad omen when it was born to a cat.
The strange kitten is said to look “alien-like” and is a cross between a one-eyed kitten and a monkey. It appears “different” from other members of the cat herd.
Belonging to agriculture student Michael Severino of Baranggay Baliwagan in the Philippines, Michael was told it must have been an evil spirit when his pet cat gave birth and he shared the photos online.

According to All About Asia, engkanto are “very similar to humans in that they age, have male and female versions, and can get sick or even die.”
They say: “Engkanto is known for its negative effects on health and negative influence on luck. People who anger Engkanto have suffered from depression, madness, illness and some have even disappeared due to being haunted.
“Some Engkanto is good and some is bad.”
It is said that these mythical creatures live in areas with dense vegetation around them, but can also choose to live around humans.
Michael recounted his own doubts and said: “There are two different types of engkanto, some bring bad luck and some bring luck.
“They say it’s bad luck because the kitten is cursed.”

Perhaps the most likely reason behind the mutant member of the litter is the mother’s age, which is believed to be around 8 years old.
Although Michael said this is the first time this has happened, the older the cat, the more likely it is to develop pregnancy complications and birth problems.
He added: “Animal experts believe the cause is malnutrition and because the kitten’s mother is only 8 years old.
“I think this is very strange but unique, because the mother always gives birth and gives birth to normal babies and this is the first time this has happened.”
