The faceless fish was discovered by an Australian scientist at a depth of 4,000 m under the sea during an expedition to search for marine resources from northern Tasmania to central Queensland.
Strange faceless fish.
When pulling small nets with underwater cameras deep inside the eastern abyss up to 4km deep off the coast of Jervis Bay, scientists on the ship Investigator of the Australian Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) ) has obtained a very unusual faceless fish.
The fish has nostrils and a mouth but no face. In the 1870s, a similar fish sample was caught in the Coral Sea by a pioneering research team on the HMS Challenger.
Researchers believe that this strange fish’s eyes may be hidden deep below the surface but cannot be seen clearly.
In addition to the strange faceless fish, scientists have also discovered many unusual and even bizarre marine species such as the ghost shark, a fish with light-sensitive plates on the top of its head, or a three-legged fish crawling on its feet. So… These are mostly new creatures that they don’t know anything about.
