A glass squid with demonic red eyes that looks like an alien was recorded in the waters by researchers aboard the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) ship Okeanos Explorer. dusk of the Semidi Islands in Alaska on July 15.
The video shows the upside-down squid slowly descending into the ocean, with its “arms” appearing to form a single hat-like mass on the upper part of its body.
What surprises many people is the transparent body of the glass squid, allowing one to see through the animal’s internal organs. The largest organ is the red digestive gland located in the middle, with two white sacs called gills on both sides.
The researchers captured a brief moment where one of the glass squid’s eyeballs appeared to rapidly contract within the surrounding purple discs. This behavior of glass squid is similar to humans and other animals blinking, NOAA said.
