Australian explorers spent 35 days surveying the ocean floor at depths from 60m to 5,500m near Christmas Island as well as the Cocos Islands. It didn’t take long for them to discover some strangely shaped creatures during their trip.
After a month floating on the Marine National Facility ship at sea, researchers have discovered many new sea “monsters”… and named them.
They call this creature with a small mouth and a body similar to a jellyfish, but without a face, “Peanut Worm”. Although they look quite similar to worms, based on their living habits, when in danger, these creatures will often curl up like peanuts, so researchers decided to give them that strange name. .
This fish with a very long hind body is named Shortarse Feelerfish. Their shape looks like a comb.
This fish is called Grideye Spiderfish. They have a rather strange and scary shape, looking like their “head is separated from their neck”, but in fact the white part there is a light detector, instead of eyes. In some cases, this “machine” even secretes substances to attract prey.
This is a new species of starfish, researchers have not yet come up with a suitable name for them. But this species of starfish is suspected of being a “falling child” between a starfish and an octopus.
This strange creature with a scary smile is called a lizard fish by scientists.
