Jacobin pigeons have a special shape with feathers surrounding the neck and rising above the head, and are considered an attractive pigeon breed.
Jacobin pigeons are a breed of ornamental pigeons. Along with many other domesticated pigeons, they are descendants of the rock pigeon (Columba livia).
The characteristic of this bird is the dense feathers around the neck, extending high above the head and standing straight up. With this feature, their faces can only be seen from the front.
The plumage can be pure white, or there are also birds with gray or multi-colored feathers. Birds have long feathers, long legs and thin tails.
The Jacobin is one of the world’s oldest domesticated pigeon breeds. However, the origin of this species has not been accurately researched. Some experts believe that they originate from India or are native to the island of Cyprus. They appeared in Europe around the 16th century, then went through 4 stages of development by breeding experts.
Because of limited visibility, this species of pigeon is almost unable to fly. Instead, they only move on the ground.
Jacobin pigeons eat quite little and are considered good parents when taking care of their young pigeons.
